Like Marquette University, Sigma Chi was born of a dream.
Like Marquette, Sigma Chi is born of a dream… In 1855, seven men dreaming of high ideals founded the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and “made their mark” on the landscape of higher learning, in much the same way as Rev. Jacques Marquette, a French Jesuit explorer and missionary whose 17th-century journey of discovery pioneered the growth of Milwaukee, and much of the Midwest. Like the school’s namesake, the Founders of Sigma Chi had a legacy to leave.
Why Sigma Chi's Iota Pi is Great
Brotherhood. Leadership. Impact. The Sigma Chi experience at Marquette University starts here.
Since 1989, the Iota Pi chapter of Sigma Chi at Marquette University has stood as a model of what fraternity life can be—values-driven, service-minded, and future-focused. Here's what makes Iota Pi truly great:
A Legacy of Brotherhood
At Sigma Chi brotherhood is more than a word—it’s a way of life. Our chapter fosters lifelong relationships built on trust, integrity, and shared purpose. Whether you joined last semester or decades ago, you’re part of a community that stands by you through every season of life. The bonds formed as a ΣΧ last well beyond graduation, creating a support system that grows stronger over time.
A Home With History and Heart
Our chapter house at 1327 W. Kilbourn Avenue is more than a building—it’s our home. Thanks to the Make Your Marque alumni campaign, the house underwent major renovations that preserved its historic character while upgrading it for today’s needs. With welcoming common spaces, updated amenities, and a rich sense of tradition, the house is where our brotherhood comes to life.
Committed to Leadership and Growth
Leadership is in our DNA. Through executive roles, committee work, and involvement across campus, the Iota Pi Chapter of Sigma Chi empowers members to lead with confidence and purpose. Brothers also benefit from Sigma Chi’s international leadership development programs like the Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop and the Horizons Huntsman Leadership Summit, preparing them to be ethical leaders in every aspect of life.
A Culture of Service and Impact
Giving back is a central part of our identity. Our annual Derby Days fundraiser rallies the campus around a great cause—raising money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and other charities. From planning events to partnering with local organizations, Sigma Chi brothers take pride in making a real difference in the Marquette and Milwaukee communities.
Resilience and Redemption
Every great chapter faces challenges—and Iota Pi has faced them head-on. After disciplinary issues in the early 2010s, the chapter committed to deep cultural change. Through hard work, humility, and a return to Sigma Chi’s core values, the Iota Pi Sigma Chi chapter earned recognition as Marquette’s Most Improved Fraternity and became a case study in growth, maturity, and redemption.
A True Brotherhood in a Global Network
Sigma Chi's Iota Pi chapter is part of something much bigger. As a chapter of Sigma Chi International Fraternity, we connect to a network of more than 300,000 brothers worldwide. This means mentorship, professional networking, travel opportunities, and a sense of belonging that spans generations and continents. From Milwaukee to Toronto to Los Angeles, Sigma Chi is always there.
Excellence in All Dimensions
What makes the Iota Pi chapter of Sigma chi special is our balance. We take pride in our academics, we lead on campus, we give back to our community—and yes, we have fun doing it. We believe fraternity life should shape you into the best version of yourself, and we work every day to live up to that ideal. At ΣΧ, our success is defined by the lives we impact and the leaders we become.
